About Fred Moncaio
Fred Moncaio is not only a decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt but also a living example of what hard work, discipline, and passion can achieve. Starting his journey at the age of 16, Fred found himself under the tutelage of Master Pablo Popovitch, one of the most respected figures in the world of grappling. What began as a personal challenge soon grew into a lifelong passion, shaping Fred’s career and life path.
At just 21, Fred earned his BJJ black belt—a remarkable feat that highlighted his dedication and skill. Over the years, he continued to refine his technique, participate in world-class competitions, and eventually achieve the prestigious rank of 3rd-degree black belt.
Beyond BJJ, Fred has ventured into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), where he quickly made a name for himself as a fearsome competitor. His amateur record of 10-0, all won by submission, speaks volumes about his grappling expertise, and as a professional fighter, he has secured 6 victories, all via submission in the first round.
Fred’s commitment to excellence is not confined to his own training and competition. He regularly teaches and mentors others, sharing his wealth of knowledge with the next generation of BJJ practitioners and fighters. His teaching philosophy revolves around respect, perseverance, and fostering a supportive community where every student, regardless of skill level, can thrive.
Life Outside the Mats
When he’s not competing or teaching, Fred Moncaio serves as a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This role reflects his deep commitment to serving others and staying composed under pressure, qualities that have also proven invaluable in his fighting career. Balancing his passion for martial arts with his dedication to helping those in need, Fred lives by the motto: “Strength in technique, humility in life.”
